A JOINT EXHIBITION WITH
JEANETTE BUTLER, ANNE ALCOCK, KIM MANCINI & SHIRLEY FRODSHAM
27 OCTOBER - 21 NOVEMBER 2010
AT MARTIN GALLERIES
4 ASPINALL STREET, NUNDAH
A collaborative exhibition by four inspired artists responding to a singular theme. Like the theory of six degrees of separation explains our connection to everything, this exhibition draws us into a visual awareness of the threads that bind us all.
The journey into the world is as informative as the journey into ourselves, Kim Mancini explores the body as a singular space layered and coiled her paintings force you to decide where you stand at that moment. Shirley Frodsham challenges us with her compelling works inspired by the refugees and their plight, inviting us into a space where we can safely put ourselves in that position if only for a moment.
Jeanette Butler’s works on canvas show threads of life in the environment, which are most apparent when she paints multicoloured farmland that bears a striking resemblance to a bed quilt. Jeanette’s style is joyful and shows a mind in awe of the beauty that surrounds her. Anne Alcock delivers us into the realm of her imagination where every fibre connects us all with our realities and our dreams. Trees show human elements that you focus on for a moment before a larger truth overwhelms you. Most people will find that the works will have them re-visiting stories of their youth, to a time when innocence denied the barriers we build as adults.
