ADULT 10 WEEK PROGRAM



Term 3 - Starts Week Commencing Monday 14th July 2025

Monday -      10am to 12pm
Tuesday -      10am to 12pm
Wednesday - 6.30pm to 8.30pm

Two casual Saturdays a month 12pm - 2pm

If you are unable to make a class, you can do a make up in any of the available sessions within the 10 week term. All terms align with Queensland school terms. 

Week 1: 
Introduction to Drawing using tonal values and one colour

  • Explore the basics of pencil, cahrcoal and pastel drawing using photos, still life, found objects.  
  • Learn how to create compositions and understand value. (A table will be set with assorted and found objects)
  • Using casted shadows to find shapes in negative spaces.
Week 2:
Mixed Media Drawing on location
  • Create a mixed media piece on large paper, canvas or calico, watercolour paper using the materials from Week 1.  Play with shadows and learn to draw back in to them to reveal form. Using long sticks to hold pencils and brushes, inks and mixed media drawing materials. 


Week 3:

Egg Tempura Watercolour, Gouache & Ink

  • Learn the fundamentals of these mediums to build mood and atmosphere in loose, expressive compositions. Make your own medium - Bring egg, canvas and wood board. 
Week 4:
Landscape Painting in Watercolour, no drawing painting. 
  • Use your own photos to paint a land or seascape.  Focus on colour theory and painting from light to dark and intro to colour theory.
Week 5:
Acrylic Painting & Mediums bring old print or painting vintage poster
  • Introduction to acrylics and techniques like glazing, layering, texturing and varnishing.  Learn about impasto and contemporary styles.  

Week 6:
Contemporary Canvas Work cont. On Artwork or start a new one

  • Create a floral or still-life canvas from live display, incorporating modern techniques and person expression. 
Week 7:
Canvas Project Continued
  • Build on your Week 6 artwork, refine details, and develop your painting further.

Week 8:
Oil Painting and TechniquesLearn the Art of Sgraffito like the Italian masters
  • Learn about oil paints, canvas prep, glazing, encaustic methods, and water-based oils.  Create realistic or watercolour-style oil paintings.  (varies from term to term)
Week 9:
Storytelling Through Art
  • Explore various forms of art and begin your major piece in oils of layer over your acrylic work. Focus on building narrative and meaning. 
Week 10:
Finishing Artwork and Framing Techniques
  • Complete you major work. 

 

Each week can include demonstrations, hands-on practice, critiques, and discussions about famous artists working in each medium. This structure provides a comprehensive introduction to various materials and techniques while allowing for exploration and creativity.
